2016 Blue and Gold Banquet

Posted in: Pack News by rlgray on January 28, 2016

The Blue & Gold banquet is Scouting’s annual Birthday Party and also an occasion for us to reflect on all the great scouting events the boys have participated over the past year as well as the Webelos’ careers in Pack 200. Throughout the evening, we will be playing slideshows to highlight our scouts and the 2015-2016 year. It’s our goal to include as many Pack 200 scouts in the slideshow as possible, but we cannot do it without your help and your photos!

Pack 200’s Blue & Gold is an annual family event at which scouts are recognized for their individual rank advancement. The event concludes with our second year Webelos “Bridging to Boy Scouts”.  This year we have close to 30 Webelos advancing to Boy Scouts and and they will be crossing the bridge to their selected troop.

This year’s Blue & Gold Banquet will be Saturday, February 20th from 5 pm to 8 pm.

The Pack will have a covered dish supper this year.  We are asking each family to bring a main dish and side enough for you.

  • Dens 1 through 6 will bring a main dish and side
  • Dens 7 through 10 will bring a main dish and dessert

Tigers do not normally attend this event unless with an older sibling.

The Pack will provide drinks, silverware, plates and napkins.  Dens are encouraged to decorate their table or bring centerpieces they have created.

The Blue & Gold Banquet is well attended and so space is at a premium due to the size of the Pack.
As we are having a Pot Luck dinner this year, there is no cost but we will need a head count because space is limited.

Rick Schertz has been collecting photos from the Webelos II families.  If you would like to submit your photos in person on USB stick, CD, or DVD, please send a note to the Cubmaster Hans.

If this is your family’s first time attending a Blue & Gold banquet, please take some time to read over the following FAQ regarding Blue & Gold. If you have any questions that aren’t covered here, please contact your den leaders.

What takes place during the Blue and Gold Banquet?

  • Pack 200 celebrates Cub Scout’s Birthday which is in February.
  • It serves as our Pack meeting for the month of February.
  • Final Webelos and Arrow of Light ranks are awarded.
  • Other Rank Badges are presented if earned, per any normal Pack meeting.
  • Religious Emblems earned by Bears and Webelos in the Fall are presented.
  • Exiting Webelos Leaders are recognized for their work.
  • Blue & Gold concludes with the “bridging ceremony” in which our Webelos II scouts leave the Pack to become Boy Scouts.

Who should attend?

You are welcome to invite your family and friends.

Does it really last three hours? Why is it so much longer than a normal pack meeting?

We will take every attempt to keep the evenings events moving quickly, but due to the size of our pack, it has traditionally taken this long to have dinner and get through the presentations which had previously included all the rank advancements for the Wolves, Bears, and Webelos.  The New Adventures for 2015 have delayed most of these rank-ups, but we also have 1/3 more Webelos bridging this particular year.  At the end of the program, any help to clean up with be appreciated.

What should I bring?

Don’t forget your camera or camcorder! The Pack is asking the dens and parents to bring some games, books, magazines to help keep the scouts occupied during the ceremony. However, we ask that you please refrain from bringing electronic gaming devices.

Will there be Babysitting for younger siblings?

No, babysitters have not been requested or arranged this year.

What happens if my Scout has not earned his rank by the Blue and Gold banquet?

The Scout can continue to work on his rank for the next several months. The Pack will have always recognize Scouts at the Pack meeting following their accomplishment.  The New Adventures from 2015 have changed the expected pattern and many Scout rank-ips are anticipated for the May Year-End Picnic.

Blue and Gold Decorations

The dens are encouraged to create table decorations for the banquet. The more creative the better. If you have ideas for decorations, please let your den leaders know.

What can I do to help?

The Pack will be setting up the fellowship hall on Saturday morning starting at 9:00 AM. We will set up tables, chairs and the stage. Also, the small room off of the Fellowship Hall will need to be set up for the serving line. Depending on the number of people that show up, it should take about two hours to set up.  Please see the Sign-up Genius for volunteering at this event, you will be most welcome!
