When: Saturday, July 14th, 4pm-6pm
Where: Bond Park multipurpose field (next to the dam)

The closest parking to the multipurpose field can be found at the Community Center.

Required Waiver Forms

The Town of Cary requires that all participants read the town’s Model Rocket Guidelines (click to download) document and sign the waiver on the last page. Rob Wilson will be collecting these forms and submit them to the Parks Dept. on behalf of the Pack.

Where can I find rocket kits?

Local stores that carry model rockets include:

Hangar 18 hobby shop on Kildaire Farm Rd (website)
Michael’s in Crossroads

Online sources for model rockets include:

    amazon.com
estesrockets.com
hobbylinc.com

Most kits will require some level of assembly, but this is usually limited to just gluing parts together. Be sure to allow at least 24 hours for the glue to dry before using the rocket.

(If you know of any additional locations, please submit them using the comment form at the bottom of the page.)

Building Guidelines

Due to the size of the launch field, please limit your rockets to “A” or “B” sized engines. If you use anything larger, your rocket will probably end up in the trees surrounding the field. Depending on how windy it is, it’s possible that you could lose a rocket even with the smaller engines, so please don’t purchase any rockets that are too expensive or complicated to assemble.

In addition to the rocket and engines, you’ll also need to bring engine igniters and wadding (these are usually included with the engines, but double check just to be sure.)

Please bring your own launch pad to share! The Pack doesn’t have any launch pads. This year, we will designate specific locations for where the launch pads can be set up. Once all those locations are taken, we would like everyone to share.

The pack will provide shade canopies, water, and some frozen treats for the scouts and siblings. If past years are any indication, it will probably be quite sunny, so please make sure your family wears plenty of sunscreen. Boys are encouraged, but not required, to wear Class C uniforms (scouting T-shirts.)

The pack will provide popsicles for scouts, siblings and parents.

If you have any questions regarding the event, feel free to email info@pack200.org

In celebration of our final meeting of the 2011-2012 Scouting “year”, Pack 200 families are invited to join us at the Bond Park Kiwanis Shelter on May 22 for a cookout and Pack meeting.

For the cookout, the Pack will provide hamburgers, hotdogs, condiments, napkins, plates, and utensils, ice and drinks. We ask that the Dens provide the following items to share with the rest of the Pack:

Tigers, Den 1 Den 2: Side Dishes

Den 7 & Den 8: Chips

Den 3, Den 4, and Den 5 : Desserts

We plan to start serving food at 5:30, so don’t be late!

At approximately 6:30, we will begin cleaning up and move over to the amphitheater for the Pack meeting (weather permitting.) During this Pack meeting, the scouts will “rank up” to their next rank. Parents are advised to bring the hat, neckerchief, and neckerchief slide for their son’s next rank. (Webelos parents: your scouts are not affected by this as they are already wearing the colors of their rank.) The pack has a tradition of handing down hat, neckerchief and slide for the next den’s use; check with your leaders for availability.

As a reminder, the scout store address can be found on the website.

Any parents that would like to volunteer at the grill are asked to arrive no later than 4pm to help get things going.

Should you have any questions, feel free to contact your den leaders or email info@pack200.org.

Saturday, May 12th 2012
9:00 AM
Bond Park Boathouse (map)

The scouts will learn about geocaching, earn their Map & Compass Belt Loop and/or Pin, and learn about Cache-in, Trash-out (Leave No Trace).

Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunt using hand-held GPS receivers to locate hidden containers, which generally contain a logbook, and sometimes take-one-leave-one trinkets. There are many websites where you can discover caches near you, and even register missions (similar to “Where’s George”).
If your scout would like to bring an item to trade in a cache, please bring nothing larger than a Lego mini-figure.

If you have a GPS, please bring it; there is are a number of apps available for smartphones, e.g. geocaching.com’s for iPhone and Android ($10), or c:geo for Android (free).

Please take this 2-question survey to assist planning.

Please remember in the spirit of scouting, leave no trace.
There will be a competition to weigh the trash collected, with prizes for the most!

Pack a picnic lunch for after with your fellow treasure-seekers!
