2015 Spring Family Camping

Posted in: Pack News by rlgray on March 14, 2015

Even though our camping trips are rain-or-shine affairs, they are also SAFE. We have been keeping a close eye on the weather forecast for Albemarle and Badin, NC (Morrow Mountain). Friday afternoon and night appears to be a guarantee of thunderstorms with winds. We would not want to ruin any Scout’s first outdoor camping experience with that while in a tent, or even crammed in a car! The Guide To Safe Scouting is very clear that lighting risks should be minimized. With the threat of lightning and knowing that our organization would overwhelm any shelters the park offers, the Pack leadership has opted to change this weekend’s camping trip to cover Saturday and Sunday only. We will not be going on Friday night.

This means that we would want to meet at the camp sites by 10AM on Saturday. Per the Camp Agenda, we will then walk to the park’s museum to tour and begin the Park Ranger activities. The rest of our day will follow the original agenda, including hiking and free time. If you arrive later than 10AM, simply meet up with us at the Park Museum. Lunch will be back at the camp sites at noon, when we can also spend time putting up tents if needed. Saturday night will still have a campfire, and families may linger Sunday after breaking camp if they wish to continue exploring the park.

See you Saturday morning!
